On Friday morning, the worst kept secret in football was finally revealed to be true – Jose Mourinho was appointed as Louis van Gaal’s successor and the third manager of Manchester United since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
It’s safe to say the news of Mourinho’s inevitable appointment was greeted with open arms by the United faithful, as they hope he will be the man to reinstate consistent success at Old Trafford.
The tone of the past three years under David Moyes and Louis van Gaal respectively have been foreign to the modern United fan, but with Mourinho’s track record, it is likely that his reign will be just like old times in terms of success.
We took to Twitter to find the best reactions after Mourinho was announced:
The mentality in the squad went downhill completely after SAF left. No fight in them, heads down. Mourinho will turn that around fast.

Other fans gutted we've got Mourinho which is always good sign. It's not going to be dull this, is it? MUFC need to get back to being hated.

There is an air of euphoria circling around the United fanbase today, a cockiness that the fans knew well under Sir Alex Ferguson, yet haven’t been able to flaunt in recent years…
Mourinho: "I think I prefer to forget the past three years." I like him already.

Whether Mourinho can wipe his Chelsea woes from his memory is yet to be seen, but the United faithful are certainly happy about his arrival at Old Trafford.
