Rooney speaks out about working with José Mourinho

Wayne Rooney has spoken out about his experience with working under José Mourinho, and said that he has plenty of reasons to be excited about the upcoming season.

Under Louis van Gaal, Rooney played in a whole host of positions, including central midfield, but the natural forward has confirmed Mourinho wants him playing closer to the striker in the No.10 role.

“The new manager has come in and wants me playing as the 10 and closer to goal,” he told BT Sport, as reported by the MEN.

“I have scored goals all through my career so it’s a chance for me to score more goals.

“But he has also given me the freedom to go and get on the ball and link up with the midfield if I want so I am looking forward to it.

“It’s an exciting time for me and an exciting time for Manchester United.”

The interview was released ahead of Rooney’s testimonial game against Everton, which shall take place at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening. The 30-year-old has confirmed that all funds raised from the game will be pledged to charity.
