Manchester United looking at James Rodríguez for Wayne Rooney replacement

According to reports, Manchester United are set to step-up their efforts in a pursuit for Real Madrid Galactico James Rodríguez, with Wayne Rooney set to leave the club, ending his thirteen-year stay.

Wayne Rooney signed from Everton in the summer of 2004 and went on to become both top goal scorer and captain for club and country, with Rooney reaching his peak early, his career is now on a downward spiral and is set to rejoin his boyhood club on a free transfer.

Rooney, who is willing to take a huge pay-cut to rejoin the Merseyside club should be an Everton player once more come the weekend. Manchester United have agreed to waive any transfer fee for the Englishmen due to Manchester United’s apparent deal with Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, who netted an impressive 22 goals last season in the league alone.

With all this happening, United are looking to replace their all-time top goal scorer with James Rodriguez, who is has set his heart on leaving the Bernabeu this season, amid interest from a sea of clubs. The reported asking price is around the €70 million mark, but Manchester United want to try and negotiate that price with Madrid.

It is suspected that Real won’t be too keen on negotiating with Manchester United, due to the recent fiasco regarding the transfer of Alvaro Morata to the club, which now seems to be off due to United not wanting to stump up the reported £80 million.
