On Thursday morning news broke that Manchester United are set to sign Everton striker Romelu Lukaku for a fee of £75m.
According to reports, United are confident of completing the Belgian’s signing before the club’s US summer tour begins on Sunday.
Lukaku, who is currently on holiday in California with United midfielder Paul Pogba, is set to undergo a medical in Los Angeles before the proposed transfer is rubber-stamped.
Although United is convinced that Lukaku is theirs, Everton insists that a deal for Lukaku’s sale has not been agreed. Chelsea, who were considered to be front-runners for the striker before United swooped in, also believe that they are still in the hunt for Lukaku’s services.
United retain an interest in Chelsea’s Nemanja Matić; however, a deal for the Serbian midfielder may not go through if United are successful in their pursuit for Lukaku.
Should the transfer go through, Lukaku would become United’s second first-team signing this summer after Swedish centre-back Victor Lindelöf who arrived from Benfica for £31m.
