United in tussle with City for Brugge prodigy

José Mourinho and Pep Guardiola could be going head-to-head this summer to secure the signature of Club Brugge striker Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis.

According to Het Laatste Nieuws, both Manchester clubs had scouts at Brugge’s Europa League qualifier on Thursday night against AEK Athens to watch the young Nigerian. Scouts from Leicester City, Monaco, and Borussia Dortmund are also reported to have attended the match in Bruges.

Dennis, 19, arrived at Brugge this summer after a successful season at Ukranian side Zorya Luhansk in 2016. In his debut season playing professional football the Nigerian potted 6 goals in 22 matches, helping Zorya to a top 3 finish in the Ukranian top flight.

The teenager has gotten off to a hot start in Belgium this season netting 4 goals in 3 Jupiler Pro League matches.

While Dennis has a contract with Brugge until 2021 and the club is keen to hold on to him, a big money offer from a Premier League club be too tempting to resist.

United’s rumoured interest in Dennis makes sense as the club is bereft of striker options behind Romelu Lukaku with Mourinho preferring to deploy attackers Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford on the wings.
