Mourinho: Pereira’s decision to go to Valencia disappoints me

In his pre-match press conference ahead of the Stoke fixture on Saturday, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho revealed that he doesn’t agree with Andreas Pereira’s decision to go out on loan to Valencia this season.

“His was a personal decision that I don’t agree with, a decision I don’t think honestly is the best decision for him, a decision that disappoints me,” said Mourinho.

“He has the potential to be fighting for a position [at United], fighting for opportunities and fighting to be a Manchester United player.

“His decision can be considered a young player who wants to play every weekend but also a young player that is not ready to fight for something difficult.”

The United boss added: “And it’s difficult to play in Manchester United’s midfield. You have to be ready to fight for the position and I am disappointed he left.”

“But it was his decision, I opened the door for his decision. He has a long-term contract, we have the option to bring him back on January 1, so is not a drama but is a decision which disappoints me a little bit.”

Pereira 20, spent the 2016/2017 season on loan at La Liga minnows Granada, and penned a new long-term contract with United this summer after impressing in pre-season.
