Romelu Lukaku’s agent Mino Raiola has urged United fans to stop singing a chant about the striker, deemed offensive by the Kick It Out campaign.

A small section of the crowd were heard singing the chant during the Reds’ 1-0 victory over Southampton at the weekend, despite warnings by the club asking the fans to stop.

Kick It Out have labelled the chant as ‘racist,’ and Lukaku released a statement last week asking the fans to ‘respect each other.’

Despite this, the chants continued at St. Mary’s, and Raiola has urged the United fans to cease singing the chant.

“He’d like this song to stop,” he told The Times. “They are talking more about the song than about his football. That’s his and my quote.”

After United’s win on the south coast, the club also released a statement about the song, which read: “Manchester United has a zero tolerance stance on offensive chanting and behaviour.

“The club and player have been clear in asking for an end to the chant. The club has worked with relevant bodies and supporters groups in trying to eradicate any offensive behaviour and will take further action against individuals if this continues.

“The club is in discussion with the police and has asked for CCTV footage from Southampton and will try to identify those who disrespected the player’s wishes not to sing the song.”
