Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka is garnering interest from Manchester United, according to German outlet Bild.

Goretzka, 22, is set to have his contract with the German club expire at the end of this season and could be a candidate to move in the January transfer window.

Apart from United, the German international is also attracting interest from English clubs Liverpool and Chelsea. It is believed that European giants Bayern Munich and Barcelona also are keeping tabs on the player’s situation at Schalke.

Arriving at the Veltins-Arena from his hometown club VfL Bochum in 2013, the German midfielder has established himself as a mainstay in the Schalke midfield – scoring 11 goals in 95 Bundesliga appearances for the Gelsenkirchen club.

A versatile midfielder capable of playing in both an advanced and withdrawn central role, Goretzka could possibly serve as a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick who is expected to retire at the end of the 2016/2017 season.
