Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matić has told fans to expect more from him in the coming weeks.

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, the Serbian believes that he will bring more to Man United’s midfield as he gets up to speed following an unusual summer.

“I didn’t have pre-season,” Matić said. “I trained alone. I can feel it in some parts of the game!

“My body is not ready yet and I have some difficulty, of course, but I try to hide that and to play simple. I will be better.

“We know what we have to do because we are Manchester United and we are focused just on the next game,” the former Chelsea midfielder continued.

“Always the next game is the most important, so game by game we have to collect points and next May we will see. It’s a long way to go.”

Along with centre-back Victor Lindelöf and striker Romelu Lukaku, Matić was one of the three players to arrive at Old Trafford his summer as United manager José Mourinho continued his squad overhaul.

The 29 year-old has given United a big boost so far this season. The Serbian has added much needed stability to the Manchester club’s midfield and his defensive prowess has allowed Paul Pogba to play further up the pitch.

Through his early season performances, Matić has done well to silence critics who questioned whether he had what it took to patrol United’s midfield.
