Pereira: Difficult for me to return to United this season

In an interview with AS, Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira admitted that it would be difficult for him to cut short his loan spell at Valencia in order to return to Old Trafford this season.

Pereira, 21, left for a season-long loan at the Spanish club in September in search of regular first-team minutes. His decision was questioned by United manager Jose Mourinho who believed that the former PSV academy player should have stayed in Manchester and fought for a starting role.

The Brazilian youth international’s loan agreement contains a clause which will allow United to recall Pereira from loan in January if they choose to do so.

The Brazilian under-23s international has made 7 La Liga appearances for Los Che thus far and is keen on staying in Spain for the duration of his loan.

“When I signed, I knew that this clause existed,” Pereira told AS. “But now I am calm, focused on Valencia. Nobody called me from Manchester.

“I’m calm, if they want them to go back they’ll call. I want to stay here for the whole season because I’m fit, I feel good… If I had to go back it would be difficult again.”

Pereira said he can understand why Mourinho might have been disappointed with his decision to go out on loan.

“I could see it from a negative side and think he was angry with me,” Pereira said of Mourinho’s reaction. “But I was always very good to him. We were always honest with each other.

“I think of the positive: If I were not a good player, he would not have said anything in the press, he would have let me go and that’s it. I think he was worried because I left. I have to think about myself now.”
