Monaco and Brazilian midfielder Fabinho has been tipped with a move to Manchester United in the January transfer window, by former Arsenal star Robert Pires.

Fabinho was of course heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window and fans across Europe were surprised to see the tenacious midfielder remain in Ligue 1, despite many of his team-mates moving on. The central midfield spot has actually been a depleted area for United so far this season, with Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini and Micheal Carrick having all picked up injuries that have kept them on the sidelines, for a rather lengthy period.

As mentioned, Fabinho was heavily linked with a move to United over the Summer and it hasn’t taken long for rumours to surface, speculating the Brazilian with a move away from Monaco yet again. When asked about the potential move, Robert Pires has stated that he believes the deal could take place during the new year:

“I think this could happen in January, or next summer. Manchester City could also be interested but they’ve got Fernandinho at the moment, who is playing very well.”

Fabinho has been ever-present for Monaco this season, starting all but one game in the French side’s successful start to a League campaign. It is however inevitable to hear that other teams are perhaps interested in Fabinho, who continues to impress with his dominant displays in the midfield area. The Brazilian would certainly add some depth in quality to United’s midfield area and also looks to be a very ‘Jose Mourinho type player.’ Only time will tell as to whether United will go back in for Fabinho, but is is certainly a story worth keeping a close eye on.
