Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has revealed that he is happy at the club and wants to prolong his stay at Old Trafford.

The Spanish international joined United from Chelsea in January 2014, and has gone on to make more than 150 appearances for the Red Devils. Mata’s current contract is set to expire in June; however, United have the option to automatically extend the former Valencia playmaker’s contract by one year.

Mata spoke openly about his future, saying: “I’m happy here. The club is massive, the support we have is massive. I’ve been settled down in the city since year one.

“I’m 29 and hopefully I can play football for some more years. It would be great to play [at United] until I’m 40 like Ryan Giggs. But that’s still a bit far, still 11 years,” continued the Spaniard.

“You never know what can happen in football and in life. But my feeling now is that I’m happy here and I wouldn’t have any problem continuing here for more time.”

Next up for United and Mata is a Premier League fixture against newly-promoted Brighton at Old Trafford on Saturday.
