Inter Milan are interested in bringing Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan to the club during the January transfer window, as following a reported bust up between Jose Mourinho and the player, the Armenian’s future at Old Trafford is in serious doubt according to reports today in the Daily Mail.

After a bright start to this season’s campaign, Mkhitaryan had looked to establish himself as one of United’s key players, registering four assists and a goal in United’s first five league games. However as the season has gradually progressed, the Armenian’s performances slowly started to deteriorate and after a poor performance during United’s loss away to Chelsea last November, Mkhitaryan has not started for United since.

In fact, the midfielder has been omitted from the first-team match day squad across the last five occasions, with Mourinho now putting his trust in the in-form Jesse Lingard, with Juan Mata just behind in the pecking order. This deprivation of minutes for Mkhitaryan has therefore sparked rumours linking him with a move away from Old Trafford in the upcoming January transfer window, with Inter Milan now appearing as the frontrunners to claim his signature.

According to Italian outlet, Corriere della Sport,  Inter Milan are keen to bolster their midfield options as the race for the Serie A intensifies, with the Milan club trailing league leaders Napoli by just two points. However it is also reported that any deal including Mkhitaryan will most likely be on a loan basis due to Inter’s tight budget, unless they were to offload one of their key players in return.

Speculation and rumours will inevitably continue to escalate as we approach the January transfer window and certainly if Mkhitaryan’s playing time doesn’t improve. At present, the Armenian’s United future certainly looks heavily in doubt, but only time will tell as to whether these rumours will surface into anything further.
