Manchester United are preparing to line up an offer for Chelsea winger Willian in the upcoming January transfer window, with Jose Mourinho desperate to add depth to his squad through another wide player. Willian was of course linked with a move to Old Trafford last Summer and now United look set to reignite their interest, according to reports in the Express today.

The right wing position in the current United squad is certainly a depleted area at present, with no player naturally being able to operate there. Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Juan Mata are the two prominent names who are usually utilised there, but as two players who prefer to play more centrally, there is a constant tendency from the two to drift away from out wide. In contrast to the left hand side, where Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are consistently battling it out for a starting position, the lack of right wingers is creating a rather unbalanced look to United’s system.

Whilst names such as Riyad Mahrez and Malcom have dominated transfer speculation in recent weeks, it is certainly of no surprise to see Mourinho being linked with another ex-player of his. As fans have seen through the recruits of Nemanja Matic and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Mourinho is certainly the type of manager to go for players he can trust, with Willian certainly being one of those players after his key role in  Chelsea and Mourinho’s 14/15 Premier League success.

With the Brazilian winger currently being out of favour with current manager Antonio Conte, perhaps the prospect of linking back up with Mourinho at Old Trafford is exactly the kind of move to reignite a spark in his career. With the January transfer window now quickly approaching, this story is certainly one worth following, with United reportedly ready to spend big again.
