Manchester United has added Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney and Fulham left-back Ryan Sessegnon to the club’s transfer shortlist, according to Duncan Castles of the Daily Record.

United’s scouting department has identified Tierney, 20, and Sessegnon, 17, as two younger and more economical options as manager Jose Mourinho looks to improve his options at the left-back position.

Although Mourinho has been impressed by the both players, it is still the 54-year-old’s preference to sign a more experienced left-back in the January or summer transfer window.

It is believed that Juventus want-away defender Alex Sandro is Mourinho’s first-choice target for the position; however, with the Italian club seeking upwards of £60m for the Brazilian such a deal could prove difficult to pull-off.

Considering this situation and the scarcity of elite left-back’s available on the transfer market, Tierney and Sessegnon have been proposed to Mourinho as alternatives.

Of the two players, Tierney is the more experienced with the 20-year-old already having made 69 first-team appearances for Celtic and possessing two seasons of Champions League football under his belt. The Hoops’ star is also a capped Scotland international.

Recruiting Tierney won’t be an easy task; however, considering the Scottish player’s affinity to Celtic and his unwillingness to force a move away.

In regards to Sessegnon, United aren’t alone in the hunt for the Fulham star with English rivals Tottenham and European powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain also keen on the £30m-rated youngster.
