Manchester United have a habit of being linked to nearly every player under the sun, and this January window is no different. Only yesterday, fans were lead to believe that PSG winger Lucas Moura was Old Trafford bound, yet the talk of the town today is Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez. It’s going to be a long few weeks.

Reports emerged on Thursday morning stating that United were preparing to hijack Manchester City’s plans to sign Alexis Sanchez. Usually reports like this are swatted away instantly, yet as they came from the likes of the ever reliable Gianluca Di Marzio and Fabrizio Romano of Sky Italia, people paid attention to them.

The Guardian also lead with a similar story, yet they believe United winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan may be involved in a swap deal for the Chilean. Their report claims that United’s offer is higher than that of City’s, although Mkhitaryan’s wages may be a stumbling block if the Armenian were to make the switch to North London.

Despite the masses of Sanchez to United rumours, Arsenal say that reports of the Red Devils bidding for the No.7 are ‘speculation,’ as per Charles Watts. This one could go on for some time.

Elsewhere, reports have surfaced of United attempting to hijack another City deal, in the shape of Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder, Fred.

The Brazilian, 24, is in his fifth season in Ukraine, and has been targeted by Mourinho, who is looking to build his midfield around Paul Pogba.

The report, written by Duncan Castles, states that Shakhtar remain keen to keep hold of the midfielder, yet the Brazilian seeks a move away, in an attempt to reach the next level of his career.

Mourinho wishes to sign a player that would allow Pogba to play further forward, closer to United’s front-line, and Fred has been tipped to be one of these players. The Red Devils have been linked to a range of midfielders over the past few weeks, including Leander Dendoncker, Julian Weigl, Fabinho, and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. Safe to say that the 54-year-old manager is looking to pad out his midfield.

Another way Mourinho could get rid of Mkhitaryan is in exchange for Borussia Dortmund starlet Christian Pulisic, report the Independent.

The report states that both United and Liverpool are preparing bids for the USA international ahead of the summer transfer window, yet United are ready to use former Dortmund winger Mkhitaryan in an attempt to beat Jurgen Klopp to the signing.

Dortmund are keen on a reunion with Mkhitaryan, and with United keen on Pulisic, the deal makes sense (that is, if Mkhi hasn’t already been used in a swap deal for Sanchez this month).
