Transfer season is well and truly upon us, and according to the ever reliable Gianluca Di Marzio, United are ahead in the race to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.

Just days ago it seemed the Chilean was destined to become a Manchester City player this month, yet Mourinho has insisted on signing the forward, and United now reportedly lead the chase for the Arsenal No.7.

In a string of tweets, Di Marzio provided the latest updates on the 29-year-old’s proposed move, and stated that Mkhitaryan could still be involved in a cash-plus-player swap deal.

When asked whether it was Red or Blue that led the race, he replied ‘United ahead…’ and followed it up with: ‘Miktharian [sic] was/is in the deal. But no agreement for his personal terms. So let’s see if only cash.’

Mkhitaryan heading to North London to make way for Sanchez would make sense, as Arsenal get an immediate replacement, and it would soften the blow of once again selling their best players to their rivals.

Perhaps the most exciting tweet from Di Marzio for United fans was his reply to the question from Twitter user @Fafa99096773, which read: ‘Could you tell me if Alexis already agreed his contract terms with us?’

To which Di Marzio replied…

Di Marzio certainly seems positive that the deal could go ahead, yet he also stressed that there has been no signature as of yet, and that is the most important thing for United to now get over the line.

Sanchez was also left out of Arsenal’s match-day squad for their Premier League game against Bournemouth this weekend, adding further speculation surrounding the move.

“He [Alexis Sanchez] has been vague at the moment,” said Arsene Wenger before the game. “The situation is not completely decided one way or another. I left him at home.”
