Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone snubs Chelsea move, but would consider United position

Chelsea are reportedly on the hunt for a new manager with Antonio Conte’s future in serious doubt, and a target on their list is Diego Simeone, manager of Atlético Madrid.

The Times claim that Simeone tops Roman Abramovich’s list of managerial targets, yet the report states that the Argentine would not want to work at Chelsea – however, he would consider Manchester United.

Simeone apparently does not see himself working at Stamford Bridge, and does not want to leave his current position in Spain until his contract expires in 2020. Atlético Madrid are currently undergoing a huge rebuild, including their recent move to a new stadium, and it is something Simeone wants to be a part of.

Despite this, if he did leave the Spanish club, The Times claim he would consider the Old Trafford job if the Red Devils were to come in for him.

The report states that the club held mid-season talks with the 47-year-old to replace David Moyes in 2014.

Simeone even being considered for the United job at the moment is highly unlikely, with José Mourinho recently penning a contract extension, but the Red Devils could look to the Atlético Madrid coach in a few years time.
