Manchester United deny claims of Louis van Gaal becoming director of football

Manchester United are not looking to appoint a director of football, despite claims that Van Gaal would be given the role if he were to vacate his management position in the summer.

The Sun reported on Thursday that Van Gaal was set to be offered the director of football role at Old Trafford, yet according to Sky Sports, the club are not looking for someone to fill this position.

Van Gaal will look to win his first trophy as United boss on Saturday as his side face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final, which could potentially be a sweet end to a disappointing campaign.

Because of his woes as manager, speculation has been heating up about his future at the club, with Sky also believing that Jose Mourinho has been told that Van Gaal’s job is his if the Dutchman were to be sacked in the summer.

If Van Gaal is to leave in the summer, it looks as if he will be gone from the club altogether, despite contrary reports appearing on Thursday.

The Sun’s report stated that Ed Woodward valued Van Gaal’s footballing knowledge, and that the Dutchman was still popular with the United hierarchy.
