José Mourinho has opened up on how he brought Paul Pogba to Manchester United in the summer, and said that he had to convince him to join the Red Devils over ‘another big club.’

We can assume that the other club were Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid, who were extensively linked with the Frenchman throughout the transfer window.

In the end, Pogba opted for Manchester United, a club that he left in 2012 on a free transfer.

However, Mourinho has said he had to work hard to convince him to make the switch to Old Trafford, in a move that would make the 23-year-old the most expensive footballer on the planet.

“Oh! It was hard to convince him [Pogba]. I had many [conversations] on the phone, lots of SMS,” he told Goal.

“I think he was getting one in the morning from the manager from another big club and one in the afternoon from myself. I had to try hard to convince him to choose us instead of the other one”
