Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata has emerged as Manchester United’s top summer transfer target as they look for a striker to replace the goals that Zlatan Ibrahimovic brought with him for the 2016/17 season, as per The Telegraph.
Morata, 24, is seen as a more viable option as opposed to Romelu Lukaku or Andrea Belotti, who would both cost at least £85million.
United’s interest in Morata is separate to any negotiations involving De Gea at the moment, yet that could change, with Real Madrid reportedly open to a trade deal involving these players.
The Spanish striker is valued at £50million by Real Madrid, yet the report suggests that United are set to bid a lower amount than the aforementioned figure.
Anyone that watched United last season will agree that their wastefulness in front of goal was a major factor in them only finishing in 6th place, making Mourinho determined to strengthen his attack.
Whether De Gea will be involved in a potential deal which brings Morata to Old Trafford is yet to be seen, but a striker that can boost United’s chances of challenging for the title will be welcomed with open arms.
