United closing in on Portuguese prospect

According to reports from Portugal, Manchester United are close to signing attacker Bruno Amorim.

Amorim, 19, currently plays for Portuguese second division side Oliveirense.

The Portuguese club’s communications director, António José Leite, told Agência Lusa: “He [Amorim] had been promoted to the main squad but the scouting was already alert and decided to take him there. At this time the business is 90% done and he may have an excellent contract ahead. The contract will shortly be announced, but he is a future bet at United.”

Amorim played four professional matches for Oliveirense and is expected to join Ricky Sbragia’s Under 23 side once the transfer is completed.

Amorim is comfortable with both feet and is capable of playing anywhere across the front line.

United’s signing of Amorim should come as no surprise as the club has been intensively scouting Portuguese talent since José Mourinho assumed the reins at the Old Trafford in May of last year.
