Roberto Martinez: Lukaku was bored at United

Romelu Lukaku spent two seasons at Manchester United and his goal record for the club is undoubtedly good but failure to impress Ole Gunnar Solskjaer proved to the Belgians downfall at Old Trafford.

Lukaku, who has had his differences with Roberto Martinez at Everton, has been backed throughout the year by the now Belgium manager. Martinez has often come out and backed Lukaku to leave Manchester United.

The former Wigan manager has now commented on Lukaku’s switch to Inter.

“Romelu needed a new challenge. Sometimes you get bored of a club,” he said.

“Working with Conte will please him and the project of Inter, who will chase the title, is interesting. I saw Lukaku laugh again and it made me happy.”

Lukaku scored on his debut as Inter beat Lecce 4-0 in their Serie A curtain raiser, after doubts he could miss the start of the season due to being overweight.

According to reports, Lukaku weighed in at 104kg upon arrival at Inter, but has since dropped to under 100kg.
