Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reflects on Liverpool defeat

A 2-0 defeat at Anfield meant that United have lost two straight away games in the league but still sit 5 points behind fourth place Chelsea, who lost at Newcastle on Saturday.

Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea and Leicester all dropped points so a victory for United on Sunday would have been vital in order to extend their lead from the North-London clubs whilst making up ground to the two in blue.

“We’re never happy when we lose a game, on the first goal we didn’t deal with the set piece well enough.” He said, commenting on Virgil van Dijk’s first half goal after beating Brandon Williams to the ball from the corner.

“Last half hour we were excellent, I thought that they (Liverpool) looked nervy.

“David (De Gea), fantastic performance today. We weathered the first 10 minutes of the second half really well to be fair. The players gave us everything. Today we hung on a bit at the start of second half, but the last 25-30 mins we pressed them and pushed them back. I’m disappointed with conceding from a corner and with the last kick – but very many positives.”

Next up for Manchester United is a mid-week match-up at Old Trafford as Burnley visit. The last meeting between the two sides was only 3 weeks ago, when goals from Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford secured a 2-0 win at Turf Moor.
