Dean Henderson: I have to earn the right to play for Manchester United

Dean Henderson is currently on loan at Sheffield United, enjoying his second loan-spell with the Blades.

The goalkeeper has impressed this term and no goalkeeper has kept more clean sheets than the English shot-stopper.

He made the headlines last month after a fantastic performance against Manchester City, keeping the Blues out on several occasions as well as saving a penalty.

David de Gea has slowly but surely improved his form after a rocky 2019 and considering he signed a new contract last year, it is unlikely that Henderson will be wearing United’s number one jersey just yet but remains hopeful.

“Plenty of people walk around and say ‘I play for Man United’ and have never kicked a ball in the first team before. I am not one of those people,” Henderson told BBC.

“I always feel like I’ve got a point to prove and one day that is my aim, to play for Man United.

“Until that happens I have got to earn the right, I have got to keep working hard day in and day out.

“When the day comes it will be even sweeter because it has been such a tough journey for myself. Only people around me know it has been hard at times. Hopefully, fingers crossed, in the near future it will happen.”
