Report: United in clear lead to sign Jadon Sancho

United have needed a right-sided winger for many years. Antonio Valencia naturally transitioned to a right-back and Alexis Sanchez, Ángel di Maria and Jesse Lingard have all failed to perform to the required level.

Daniel James came in last summer and although he enjoyed a stellar start to the season, his impact has wavered as the season progressed.

Jadon Sancho has been touted as a possible target for United for quite some time now and various outlets have confirmed United’s interest but the Telegraph report on Monday that United have taken a clear lead to sign the Englishman.

They say that United are leading the race and that the former Manchester City player will cost more than the £89 million paid for Paul Pogba four years ago. It would be a record transfer for a Premier League club.

Personal terms with the player are expected to be a formality should United and Dortmund agree a fee.

Manchester City have a right to match whatever fee Dortmund accept for Sancho and could scupper a deal but it is thought that ‘a dramatic move’ is needed from any other club.
