Manchester United were preparing an offer for an unnamed striker pre-lockdown

Manchester United are reportedly in the market for a striker despite the form of loanee Odion Ighalo. An abundance of names have been thrown into the hat such as Harry Kane, Moussa Dembele and Victor Osimhen.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Manchester United were preparing an offer for an unnamed striker before the government lockdown in the UK, with the idea that Ighalo would return to Shanghai should the striker signing be completed. This could signal Solskjær’s intent to sign a striker who will challenge Anthony Martial for the starting spot, rather than playing their role as a back-up, much like Ighalo since he joined in January.

He also throws in another curveball, saying that some contacts claim United aren’t actually in for Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish and are opting to focus on a holding midfielder instead. This may come as a surprise as it’s against the grain in terms of what’s been reported. It could also imply Paul Pogba staying at the club this summer.

It’s good to have squad-depth, but do Manchester United really need Jack Grealish, or is a holding midfield signing more pressing? Join the conversation on Twitter.
