Manchester United linked with Raheem Sterling

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Raheem Sterling.

Raheem Sterling is being monitored by Manchester United ahead of the upcoming transfer window, as per reports in The Independent.

Yes, you read that correctly.

As per the above report, there is some uncertainty around the Englishman’s future, amid Manchester City’s potential Champions League ban. It was announced back in February that the club would be unable to participate in the competition for the next two years, a decision United’s neighbours have now appealed.

Should their appeal fall through, it is certainly justifiable to suggest that many of their key players would be open to leaving. Should Sterling become available, United will go for him.

The 25-year-old hasn’t been as prolific this season, and yet, he has twenty-goals to his name. He is a versatile wide-man capable of operating down either flank and getting inside the box – the type of attacking profile Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is prioritising this summer.

On paper, Sterling is a player that would slot into United’s front-line rather effectively, but this is a complicated deal to conclude. First of all, it purely depends on City’s CL situation, with a hearing held for June 8 to discuss their appeal. Secondly, the Englishman’s contract doesn’t expire until 2023, meaning the club have at least two more summers of being in control of his situation.

Pep Guardiola would no doubt demand a lucrative amount of money for one of his starting forwards, and perhaps double it if United were the ones knocking at the door.

The Independent do cite Real Madrid in being the more likely destination over Old Trafford, with the Red Devils’ interest being somewhat of a low priority. United’s number on target remains Jadon Sancho, a much more attainable figure this summer.
