Manchester United v Arsenal may not hold the same significance as the early 2000s, but the importance of this weekend’s clash cannot be overlooked. 

Both the Red Devils and the Gunners find themselves in a period of transition, where success is being judged on both club’s ability to close the gap on Manchester City and Liverpool. 

Champions League qualification remains the most realistic ambition for both sides this season, and a win on Sunday for either would set a strong statement in breaking into the top four, early on into the campaign.

When is Manchester United v Arsenal?

The Red Devils host Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday 1 October. Kick-off is 4:30pm, with the game being the third of a Super Sunday blockbuster. 

Aston Villa face Southampton and Newcastle host league leaders Everton early on, with Spurs v Brighton to follow after United’s fixture. 

Is Manchester United v Arsenal on TV? 

United v Arsenal will be shown live on Sky Sports, and fans will be pleased to hear that the game will not be through the pay-per-view service. 

Sky are broadcasting all four games on Sunday, meaning coverage of the Red Devils will start at around 4:00pm. 

On note of the PPV module, this could soon be scrapped, with meetings reportedly scheduled in this week about its future. The decision to charge £14.95 for each individual game has inevitably drawn in criticism and scrutiny across the board – who thought it would go down well in the first place?

Manchester United team news

At the time of writing, United have no new injuries to deal with. 

Alex Telles will be unavailable, after testing positive for coronavirus. The news was confirmed by the club on Wednesday, with the player actually having no symptoms.

Phil Jones and Jesse Lingard are the only other absentees, but neither are in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first team thinking – even when fit. 

It remains to be seen whether Donny van de Beek or Edinson Cavani will be handed their first starts in the league. The former has been dominating all the talk online this week, with many calling for the Dutchman to break into the XI.
