Manchester United ready to welcome back fans

Manchester United have officially stated that they are ready to welcome back fans to Old Trafford, when the UK government issues a green light for supporters to enter sport stadiums.

The club’s Chief Operating Officer, Collette Roche, has revealed that the Red Devils have implanted strict regulations to coincide with social distancing measures.

Initial plans to reopen football grounds were postponed earlier this month, but United will be ready, when the government announces it is legal to do so.

Speaking to Sky Sports News (h/t manutd.com), Roche said:

“We were really disappointed when the government decided not to allow fans back in the stadium in October because we’ve got everything in place to make sure we can do so safely.

“We’ve got all the COVID security measures and other processes ready to go. We spent around two months working with the government guidelines to develop the right processes and measures to make sure that we can have around 23,500 people in this stadium safely social distancing.”

The health and well-being of the public remains the club’s priority, but Roche did question the decision, as to why fans have not yet been granted the license to return to grounds. Although the action on the field resumes, the sport is nothing without the supporters.

On the matter, Roche continued: “It’s quite bemusing to understand why people can gather in other settings such as on an aeroplane or a restaurant, or even in a cinema to watch football, when we know we’ve got the plans and the process is ready to deliver a match day here safely.

“The government gave us guidelines and it’s those guidelines that we have followed. I’m convinced that would be able to do so safely.”
