Southampton are eyeing up a move for Manchester United’s Brandon Williams on loan ahead of the January transfer window, according to The Athletic journalist Laurie Whitwell.
The Saints were interested in the Englishman last summer, before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer blocked the move.
Williams enjoyed a productive debut campaign for the Red Devils last season, featuring 36 times in total. The full-back quickly made his mark on the senior team, earning his manager’s trust in becoming a reliable squad member.
Such playing time has dropped off this season though, and a loan move could be likely in January. A deal is dependent on his United involvement, as per the above source, but a sudden emergence of games seems very unlikely.
Summer signing Alex Telles has found himself ahead in the pecking order, and the Brazilian has the potential to inject some much-needed creativity down United’s left-flank. Luke Shaw was the number one choice prior to his injury, and now faces tough competition for that spot.
Over on the right, Williams has found little luck also. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is one of the first names on the team-sheet, with Timothy Fosu-Mensah seemingly the back-up option.
The Saints could well try their luck again, and this time find more success. Southampton currently sit in 5th position in the Premier League, and the 20-year-old would no doubt be in good hands, under the highly-praised Ralph Hasenhüttl.
