Juan Mata has given an insight into how Edinson Cavani is settling into the club, and most notably, Manchester itself.
The striker joined Manchester United on transfer deadline day, and had to quarantine for two weeks upon his arrival. It certainly didn’t make for the smoothest of welcomings for the 33-year-old, but Cavani is now quickly finding his feet.
He grabbed his first-ever goal for the club before the international break, and has been building up his fitness ever since. It’s worth noting that Cavani hadn’t played a competitive game of football since March, before he put pen to paper at Old Trafford.
Around the camp, he’s starting to settle in, and who better to ease you into life at United, than Juan Mata. The Spaniard has offered help to Cavani, as he revealed to United Review: “I’m very happy Edinson has come here because he is a very professional player, a very committed team-mate and very driven, during all his career.
“Also, Edinson is very humble, of course, and he is a guy who likes the countryside. I think he’s settled now in his house in the countryside, which he is happy about. Of course, I told him that it is important to have a couple of umbrellas, not only one, in Manchester so I am sure he’s got a few! He is loving where he lives and his family is also happy.”
It isn’t just shopping advice with where Mata is helping out either. One of the many obstacles foreign players have to tackle in England is the language barrier, something the midfielder is also offering a helping hand with.
“Of course, he is getting used to the English language so I am trying to translate for him,” Mata further explained.
“There are a few of us that can do it and I am happy to do so. Hopefully he’ll keep scoring, like he did against Everton. Everyone knows his qualities so I’m not going to only discover now where Edinson Cavani is in the football world.”
Fans will no doubt share Mata’s belief, as depth in quality is required up-top, given this hectic fixture schedule. Looking ahead to tonight, Cavani is likely to start for United.
