Bayer Leverkusen interested in Brandon Williams

Bayer Leverkusen have joined the race to sign Manchester United’s Brandon Williams on loan, according to reports in The Telegraph.

The 20-year-old has fallen out of the first-team picture this season, following the arrival of summer-signing Alex Telles. Williams has featured just once in the Premier League, with his only two starts coming in the EFL Cup.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently claimed that a loan move is something the club ‘will look at’ next month, prompting transfer rumours and speculation.

Southampton had been the team predominately linked with a move for the full-back, with Ralph Hasenhüttl attempting to bring Williams to the club back in summer. They failed with a move, but the above report claims that the Saints retain an interest.

The Telegraph, however, also claim that Leverkusen are monitoring the player’s situation. The German side currently sit top of the Bundesliga, and could be looking for some extra reinforcements, to go the distance this season.

Williams versatility is cited in being an ‘attractive’ quality for clubs, due to his capability of operating at either right or left-back.

Due to the financial implications that COVID-19 has had on the game, not many clubs are expected to conduct business in January. Loan moves, though, could therefore be the way forward, and Williams is looking likely to depart in such a deal.

Newcastle United have also recently been linked with a move.
