After Ederson: Romano sheds light on Man Utd’s ‘dream’ deal for ‘ideal’ Casemiro successor

Aurelien Tchouameni is said to be something of a ‘dream’ midfield signing for Manchester United heading into the transfer window.

The Red Devils are continuing to do their due diligence on the market by scouting the best possible options to bring in this summer.

Aurelien Tchouameni: The latest

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tchouameni is indeed on INEOS’ shortlist, but a deal wouldn’t be easy by any means.

He revealed on YouTube last night: “Aurelien Tchouameni and Man United, there are two problems.

“The first one is the huge salary, and the second is Madrid saying in public and in private that they intend to keep him.

“If you ask me who could be the ideal defensive midfielder for United, at the club they believe that it could be Tchouameni, but then the reality is different.

“The negotiations are never easy for such top players like Tchouameni. That’s the status of the story as of today.”

United have been linked with Tchouameni since 2022

United have been tracking Tchouameni since he first began really making a name for himself at AS Monaco.

However, after two years with the club, when he had become potentially the most sought-after midfielder in world football, the Frenchman favoured a move to Madrid over any alternative suitors.

You can’t really blame any player for making such a decision, and it’s safe to say his swiftly paid off, as he has since claimed a host of major honours, including one Champions League title, a La Liga and two Club World Cups.

Tchouameni’s contract at the Santiago Bernabeu is poised to run until 2028. Given he’s about to enter what would be his penultimate season, United have decided to reignite their interest and gauge whether a transfer could be feasible this time around.

As things stand, the 26-year-old is one of the lesser likely additions at Old Trafford, but that won’t stop fans from dreaming.
