Arsenal are seriously considering signing Morgan Rogers, which could spell bad news for Manchester United for two reasons.
Both clubs are in the market for a new left winger, as the Gunners are seeking an upgrade on their current options, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, while the Red Devils believe there’s room in the squad for one more right-footed attacker alongside Matheus Cunha.
Therefore, the two clubs’ plans could intertwine in the market, as is often the case among the elite.
Arsenal eyeing Morgan Rogers transfer
While he’s originally an attacking midfielder, Rogers is more than capable of filling in the left-wing role.
The 23-year-old has been sensational since joining Aston Villa in the summer of 2024. This season, he delivered 14 goals and 12 assists in 51 appearances across all competitions, helping the club win the Europa League and finish fourth in the Premier League table.
Roy Keane is an avid admirer of the English international, hailing him as a ‘nightmare’ for the opposition.
According to BBC journalist Sami Mokbel, Arsenal are plotting a move for Rogers, whom they consider as one of the main targets to bolster the attack, alongside Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi and Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez.
This would be a blow for Man Utd, who are also on Rogers’ trail, as the same source confirms, even though they have other priorities this summer, mainly revamping their midfield department, potentially by signing three new players.
More Marcus Rashford woes for Man Utd
If Arsenal were to succeed in signing Rogers, they wouldn’t only prevent Man Utd from landing one of their targets but also limit their options in their quest to offload Marcus Rashford.
The 28-year-old’s future is up in the air, as Barcelona decided to pull out of the negotiations with MUFC and instead recruited his younger compatriot, Anthony Gordon, who arrived from Newcastle United on a deal worth £80 million.
As the Manchester Evening News explains, the Blaugrana can still activate their option to buy Rashford for £26 million in the coming weeks, but they don’t have the intention to do so.
This situation has caused a major dilemma at Carrington, as the Red Devils don’t intend to reinstate the attacker, but would prefer to get rid of him and his hefty salary.
The source also mentioned Arsenal as a potential suitor, but if they were to snap up Rogers, they’re highly unlikely to pursue Rashford.
Nevertheless, Aston Villa have also been listed among the interested parties, and Rogers’ sale would create a gap up front. Therefore, the Villans could revive their interest in the Manchester native, who played among their ranks during the second half of the 2024/25 campaign, when he was omitted from Ruben Amorim’s plans.
Rashford’s £350k-per-week salary could be the biggest obstacle, but his 14 goals and 14 assists at Barcelona could encourage his suitors, especially if he delivers good performances in the Premier League.
