An Italian source reveals that Manchester United are finally making concrete steps in their quest to sign AC Milan star Rafael Leao.
The Red Devils have all but secured their first summer signing after reaching an agreement with Atalanta for Ederson.
Nevertheless, the club’s midfield revamp is still in its early stages, as another two signings are anticipated, while Manuel Ugarte could follow Casemiro out the door.
Moreover, the club is expected to sign a new left-back, with Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall emerging as a serious candidate, while a new left winger could also arrive at Carrington.
Man Utd make their first concrete approach for Rafael Leao
After enduring his most difficult campaign at the club, Leao is ready to quit AC Milan after seven years.
The MVP of the 2021/22 Serie A campaign was repeatedly jeered off by his own supporters this season, and he recently expressed his desire to pursue a new career adventure.
The Portuguese international also revealed his admiration for Man Utd, whom he’s been following since Cristiano Ronaldo’s glory days at Old Trafford.
Many had perceived Leao’s words as a come-and-get-me plea, especially since United had already been linked with him over the past few months.
According to Italian journalist Pietrano Balzano Prota, MUFC have initiated contact with Leao’s entourage.
However, the Premier League giants aren’t expected to make a hasty decision, but will instead take their time and monitor the attacker throughout the World Cup.

Will United sign a new left winger?
In recent weeks, there have been conflicting reports regarding Man Utd’s intention to sign a new left winger.
Some sources believe the club intends to address this department, although it’s not considered a top priority this summer.
Others expect United to stick to Matheus Cunha and Patrick Dorgu as their main options for the role, especially with the latter proving capable of filling a more advanced role on the pitch.
Nevertheless, Michael Carrick had hinted at a desire to sign a new right-footed left-winger who can bolster his attacking options.
With his quick feet, magical skills, and elusive dribbling, Leao can be a stellar option, especially since he’ll be available at a relatively low price (€50-60m).
However, the 26-year-old has been accused of being too flamboyant at times, perhaps even complacent. This remains the biggest red flag in his game.
This season, he contributed with 10 goals and three assists in 31 appearances across all competitions. But all observers agreed he struggled to cope with the striker role in Max Allegri’s 3-5-2 formation, and would be better off playing in his original position down the left flank.
