Formal proposal submitted, agent negotiating move: Italian outlet confirms major Rafael Leao updates

MILAN, ITALY - MAY 24: Rafael Leao of AC Milan looks on from the substitutes bench prior to the Serie A match between AC Milan and Cagliari Calcio at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium on May 24, 2026 in Milan, Italy.

Galatasaray have reportedly become the first club to make a move for Rafael Leao after he publicly declared that he wanted to leave AC Milan this summer.

However, Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the forward is reluctant to make the move to Turkey, and is instead waiting on a Premier League club to enter the fray.

Leao’s agent is said to have taken heed of his wishes by offering him to Arsenal, though the newly-crowned league winners are yet to act on the proposal.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have registered their interest, but have not taken any steps to materialise it as of yet.

The 26-year-old’s anticipated switch is set to be more heavily negotiated when Portugal have finished their World Cup campaign, as he was called up to Roberto Martinez’s squad to play a key role in the tournament.

Then, when his focus is fully back on his club career, his suitors are more likely to come forward with their offers.

Milan are hoping to receive a fee in the region of £43.2 million, Gazzetta states, which will fall into United’s budget.

INEOS already added £38m to the transfer kitty after Rasmus Hojlund’s Napoli tenure became permanent following their Champions League qualification, while Marcus Rashford will also be sold in the coming weeks.

It goes without saying that the midfield is the utmost priority heading into the window, but adding a player as experienced and proven as Leao certainly wouldn’t go amiss ahead of the Reds’ return to the UCL next season.
