Christian Falk: Michael Carrick wants to keep Marcus Rashford

Christian Falk expects that Manchester United will retain Marcus Rashford for the season ahead after he returns from the World Cup.

Currently, any talks over his future have been put on hold while he represents England on football’s biggest stage.

Such an impactful display will have undoubtedly given Thomas Tuchel food for thought over whether Rashford deserves a start for Tuesday night’s clash with Ghana.

When his international duties have concluded for the summer, he will return to Carrington to find a solution with Carrick and INEOS regarding where he’ll be spending 2026/2027.

Barcelona let the forward’s £26 million buy option expire on Monday without activating it, meaning new terms would need to be negotiated with United if he were to resume his Camp Nou stint.

According to Falk, Carrick has welcomed the prospect of having the academy graduate at his disposal for his first full term as manager.

Speaking in his CFBayern Insider column this morning, Falk revealed: “I heard that Manchester United have an idea to stick with him ahead of the new season, as Michael Carrick is said to want to work with the 28-year-old.

“I met Carrick at the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year awards at the Landmark Hotel. I think he makes a very good impression; he’s a very straightforward kind of guy, and I think he could work with Rashford to get him back to his best.”
