Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana will remain at Trabzonspor on loan for a second year, as Michael Carrick opted against re-integrating him.
The Cameroonian has been on the club’s books since making the £47.5 million transfer from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023.
The 30-year-old endured two woeful campaigns at Old Trafford marred by recurring blunders. But this season, he enjoyed a decent run in the Turkish Super Lig.

Thanks to his exploits on loan, Trabzonspor president vowed to keep Onana at the club beyond the summer.
The Claret-Blues succeeded in their mission, as it was revealed on Thursday that the player and Man Utd have both greenlighted the move.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the transfer with his trademark ‘here we go’ in an update posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

The transfer market expert then opened up on the negotiations in a video posted on his official YouTube channel, explaining Michael Carrick’s pivotal role in the goalkeeper’s departure.
Romano revealed that Man Utd had initially planned to keep Onana around for the summer, allowing him to train alongside his teammates in pre-season before making a final assessment.
Nevertheless, the head coach bluntly told Onana and his representatives that the Cameroonian international isn’t part of his project.
The former Ajax star appreciated Carrick’s honesty, so he decided to extend his time at Trabzonspor, who will pay a loan fee ranging between £1.5 million and £2 million.

Last summer, Ruben Amorim decided to completely omit five unwanted United stars from his plans, and they became collectively known as the ‘bomb squad’.
The Portuguese’s unwavering stance ensured that four of these players were pushed out of the club, with three of them now permanently gone (only Marcus Rashford remains on the club’s books).
However, MUFC fans were wondering if Carrick had the guts to pull off a similar manoeuvre, and perhaps his treatment has answered the question.
While the 44-year-old might be more diplomatic than his Portuguese successor, he appears willing to take drastic measures when required, at least if he steadfastly believes they would benefit the club.
Onana’s contract with Man Utd is valid until June 2028, so we can expect to have a similar conversation by this time next year.
