Manchester United could be given a golden opportunity to buy Aurelien Tchouameni this summer, with Real Madrid now considering a sale.

The Premier League giants are currently in the hunt for two new midfielders, especially following Manuel Ugarte’s devastating ACL tear.

Michael Carrick has been left with only one natural central midfielder at his disposal in the shape of Kobbie Mainoo. While Ederson is expected to finalise this transfer to Man Utd after the World Cup, another two arrivals are required to man the currently depleted department.

Real Madrid plan to sell Aurelien Tchouameni

Over the past few weeks, Mateus Fernandes has been widely considered Man Utd’s top midfield target. However, INEOS aren’t willing to meet West Ham’s £80 million asking price, while Tottenham’s interest has been a looming threat to United’s chances.

In the meantime, Tchouameni has been slowly but surely emerging as a serious candidate for the role.

The 26-year-old is coming off a complicated campaign at Santiago Bernabeu, culminating with an infamous training-ground brawl that saw Federico Valverde rushed to the emergency room. Therefore, some observers believe the two teammates can no longer coexist.

According to Sport, Real Madrid will have to make some sales to generate their eventful transfer campaign, and Tchouameni is considered one of the main suspects to depart.

The source confirms that the French international has suitors in the Premier League, while only naming Man Utd.

Moreover, his contract will expire in June 2028, so this could be the ideal time to sell him while his market value is high. The 26-year-old departure could pave the way for Enzo Fernandez’s arrival, as requested by Jose Mourinho.

Why Tchouameni is the perfect signing for Man Utd

At this stage, Man Utd have a creative No.8 in Kobbie Mainoo, and are about to add a dynamic workhorse in Ederson, who mostly operates as a box-to-box midfielder.

Therefore, MUFC have yet to genuinely replace Casemiro, who was fundamental to Carrick’s system last season.

Curiously, Tchouameni was already pinpointed as Casemiro’s rightful successor at Real Madrid, so it is easy to see why Man Utd could be tempted to hand him the Brazilian’s No.6 shirt.

Moreover, the French international could be available for £60 million, making him more affordable than Mateus Fernandes. This could be a crucial factor, especially following Ugarte’s injury, which saw United miss out on a potential £25 million sale.

Finally, it should be noted that Sport isn’t the first source to report the club’s interest in Tchouameni, but the Catalan newspaper isn’t considered a top source when it comes to Real Madrid news.
