Ruben Amorim has reportedly set his sights on reuniting with one of two former players at AC Milan.
According to Italian journalist Antonio Vitiello, the ex-Manchester United coach is ‘crazy’ about signing either Goncalo Inacio or Lisandro Martinez.
Vitello claims that ‘contacts have already been made’ to try and gauge the feasibility of any potential deals.

Would United be open to selling Martinez?
Regarding United’s stance, you’d imagine they are completely closed off to a sale.
Martinez, when available, is the first centre-half on the teamsheet, which has been the case since he arrived from Ajax in 2022. Yet, it’s his availability that often goes against him.

The 28-year-old has yet to see out an injury-free season at United. As a result, he has been limited to only 76 Premier League appearances in four years, 65 of which were as a starter.
He has also been ruled out of 65 matches for fitness problems, showing just how undependable he is over the course of a campaign, albeit through no fault of his own.
Martinez preparing for fifth season in red
Next June, Martinez’s contract is poised to expire unless United activate his 12-month option. Assuming they do, INEOS will then have a decision to make over his future before he is potentially released as a free agent in 2028.
It’s safe to say that the defender himself won’t be considering any transfer this summer. Currently, his full focus is on overseeing a successful World Cup with champions Argentina, as they look to go back-to-back on the biggest stage in world football.

Martinez played the full 180 minutes of Argentina’s first two group-stage games, recording two wins and two clean sheets, but was rested for their dead-rubber clash with Jordan.
