Manchester United should go all-in for Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni, according to Nicky Butt.
The Red Devils must buy three new central midfielders this summer, especially after parting ways with Casemiro and losing Manuel Ugarte to a long-term injury.
Atalanta’s Ederson will be the first acquisition, as he’s expected to finalise his transfer after the World Cup. But after missing out on Elliot Anderson (to Man City) and Mateus Fernandes (to Spurs), they will have to pursue new targets.

As reported by Sky Sports, Man Utd have put together a five-man shortlist, headed by Tchouameni and Alex Scott. The alternative profiles are Sander Berge, Felix Nmecha, and Ayyoub Bouaddi.
But in Nicky Butt’s book, Tchouameni would be the ideal choice for the Red Devils, based on his playing attributes and experience, which would complement Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes.
“Aurelien Tchouameni is the perfect fit for Man United. We need someone who’s got legs, who is powerful and aggressive in the middle of the pitch,” said the 1999 treble winner in an interview with Paddy Power (via The Sun).
“We’ve got Bruno Fernandes, we’ve got Mainoo – we don’t need any more nimble or nice little players. We need a powerhouse who can go and compete physically and somebody who can also sit in front of the back four.”
Butt also argues that the French international is also the best available option from a financial perspective due to his price.
“He’s a perfect one for me, really is. I think money-wise for Man United he’s perfect. He’s got experience, he’s a top player who is playing for big clubs, a massive national team in the World Cup.
“He ticks all the boxes for me. He’d definitely be the one that I would go and get. I’d go all out for him.”
What are Man Utd’s chances of landing Tchouameni
In recent days, United have emerged as the ultimate frontrunners in the race for Tchouameni. However, the biggest stumbling block for the Premier League giants might not necessarily be the competition, but rather Real Madrid’s willingness to offload the midfielder.
The Frenchman infamously sent his teammate Federico Valverde to the hospital following a training-ground bust-up, but sources are providing conflicting reports on whether this incident will spell the end of his time in the Spanish capital or not.
At this stage, Man Utd can only bide their time while awaiting clearer signals from Madrid, and simultaneously explore the market for alternative solutions.
But if Tchouameni becomes available, then United should, by all means, pursue him, as he would truly be the ideal profile to replace Casemiro, having already inherited his place at Real Madrid four years ago,
