Man Utd line up two EPL wingers despite Rashford’s ‘increasingly likely’ stay

Manchester United could end up reinstating Marcus Rashford, but they continue to pursue two potential replacements.

The 28-year-old has been cast aside since December 2024, when Ruben Amorim dropped him from his plans. This prompted a brief loan stint at Aston Villa, followed by last summer’s ‘dream’ move to Barcelona.

But despite his exploits at the Camp Nou, the Catalan giants preferred to buy Anthony Gordon for £70 million rather than activate their £26 million option to buy Rashford.

Following Barca’s snub, Rashford is now set to return to United this summer, but it remains unclear how long he’ll dwell at Carrington.

Nevertheless, growing reports are suggesting that Rashford might stay at MUFC beyond the summer.

This has also been confirmed by talkSPORT journalists Alex Crook and Jack Lambourne, who reveal that the attacker is ‘increasingly likely’ to stay at the club for next season.

The source insists that United would rather cash in on their academy product whose contract runs until June 2028, and that the feeling is mutual, since Rashford is no longer fond of the club’s directors who sanctioned his exile over the past 18 months.

But at the moment, suitors aren’t exactly queuing up for the Manchester native. And since the club doesn’t want this saga to drag until the late stages of the summer, they could end up reinstating the player into Michael Carrick’s squad. The head coach would be happy to work with his former teammate, with whom he shares an amicable rapport.

Nevertheless, United continue to monitor potential replacements should Rashford end up leaving the club. Crysencio Summerville is believed to be the top priority for the left-winger role, with Ismaila Sarr the fallback option.

Could Summerville or Ismaila Sarr be an upgrade on Rashford

If Rashford can build on his strong performances at Barcelona, Carrick would have a formidable attacking option at his disposal, one capable of filling various roles in the final third. He would also allow Matheus Cunha to play in a more central role and shift Patrick Dorgu to his original left-back role when required.

However, others would argue that Summerville represents a younger and more dynamic option. The Dutch international could be available at £50 million, even though West Ham might try to resist a sale, having already collected £85 million from Mateus Fernandes’ transfer to Tottenham.

As for Sarr, he is a quick and tricky winger with important experience under his belt. The 28-year-old Senegalese international has been playing his football at Crystal Palace since 2024, winning an FA Cup and a Community Shield under Oliver Glasner’s charge.

While Summerville might be the more exciting option, Sarr is the more clinical in front of goal, at least as the stats suggest.

That being said, Rashford still made more attacking contributions than both Sarr and Summerville during the previous campaign, albeit while playing for a Barcelona side that went on to win the LaLiga title.
