Manchester United fans have received some positive news on Thursday evening, as Andrey Santos passes his medical.

It has been an eventful day for the Premier League giants, who have also secured an agreement with 35-year-old goalkeeper Karl Darlow, who will join the club as a free agent after seeing out his contract with Leeds United.

Nevertheless, the main emphasis remains on the middle of the park, with three players expected to arrive this summer.

Andrey Santos completes Man Utd medical

Over the past few weeks, Ederson has been pinpointed as Man Utd’s expected first signing. The Red Devils have a £39 million agreement with Atalanta, but the results of his original medical weren’t conclusive enough, so INEOS are still awaiting his second medical before deciding whether to proceed with the deal.

Either way, Ederson has been overtaken by his compatriot, Andrey Santos, who is now destined to become the club’s first summer signing.

The Old Trafford outfit swiftly struck an agreement with Chelsea for the 22-year-old on Wednesday.

Man Utd will pay £48 million in addition to £2 million in bonuses, while the Blues will maintain a 10% sell-on fee.

MUFC are apparently determined to finalise the transfer as quickly as possible. So according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the player has already undergone his medical on Thursday, and will sign a five-year contract on Friday.

“Andrey Santos has just completed a successful medical as new Manchester United player,” wrote the transfer market expert on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

“Clubs signed all documents for £50m package deal. Andrey signs tomorrow, Friday on deal until June 2031 plus option at MUFC.”

What’s next for Man United after securing Santos

If Santos is the first midfield acquisition, another two new additions will be added to the department, as Kobbie Mainoo was the sole survivor from last season.

Casemiro has already left the club to join Inter Miami on a free transfer, while Manuel Ugarte could miss the bulk of the campaign following the ACL tear he suffered at the World Cup.

Ederson’s upcoming medical should lift the lid on his future. If everything goes according to plan, he should become the second signing.

However, the identity of the third midfield arrival remains anyone’s guess at this point. Man Utd have already missed out on several top targets, mainly Elliot Anderson, who signed for Man City, Mateus Fernandes, who ended up at Spurs, and Aurelien Tchouameni, who will remain at Real Madrid after agreeing a contract renewal.

United’s main options at the moment are Bournemouth’s Alex Scott and Tyler Adams, Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha, and Fulham’s Sander Berge.
