Manchester United have reportedly initiated contact with the representatives of Julian Ryerson.
That’s according to BILD, which adds that Borussia Dortmund are hoping to tie down their full-back to a new deal ahead of his contract expiring in June 2028.
Why United are targeting Julian Ryerson
Ryerson has been an influential figure for the German outfit since his arrival from Union Berlin in 2023.
Last season, he recorded a whopping 15 assists in the 31 Bundesliga appearances he made, a feat that was only bettered by Bayern Munich starlet Michael Olise.
He is currently plying his trade at the World Cup with shock high-flyers Norway, who are preparing for their quarter-final clash with England on Saturday night.
The 28-year-old has made three starts at the tournament thus far, but was rested for Norway’s final group-stage fixture and Round of 32 win over Ivory Coast due to a thigh injury.
Thankfully for head coach Ståle Solbakken, Ryerson was cleared to start and play for 63 minutes against Brazil, with Erling Haaland’s late double proving enough to knock out the five-time champions.

United are seemingly keeping tabs on how the Norwegian is faring on his international duties before holding talks with the player directly.
If Dortmund receive no indication that he wants to commit to an extension, they will demand a fee in the region of £26 million to facilitate his exit in the coming months.

In the meantime, INEOS are prioritising Michael Carrick’s midfield, having agreed a £50m deal with Chelsea for 22-year-old Andrey Santos yesterday.
They are also waiting for Ederson to travel to England following Brazil’s exit so that he can undergo his medical ahead of a £38m transfer from Atalanta.
