Manchester United are ‘in advanced talks’ over a deal for Aston Villa’s Youri Tielemans.

That’s according to the ever-reliable David Ornstein, who adds that the midfielder is ‘keen’ on a move to Old Trafford.

United step up efforts to sign midfielder by approaching Youri Tielemans

All parties are now in contact to try and get an agreement over the line as swiftly as possible.

It comes after United called off their signing of Ederson, who’d flown to Manchester last week to undergo his medical at Carrington.

However, issues flagged up regarding a knee injury that he had sustained last season, which prompted United to end their interest – for now at least.

Ornstein claims INEOS may look to revive their pursuit later in the summer, presumably if they’re unable to secure the arrivals of any alternative midfield targets.

How Tielemans has fared as of late

As for Tielemans, he’s now on his summer break after being knocked out of the World Cup with Belgium last Friday.

The 29-year-old captained his nation at the tournament and played a pivotal role in them reaching the quarter-finals before he was ruled out of their clash with Spain, which saw Belgium suffer a 2-1 defeat.

He notched a brace in their emphatic comeback over Senegal in the Round of 32, so would’ve undoubtedly been distraught when he suffered a late setback and was replaced in the starting XI just before kick-off against Spain.

Tielemans has racked up a whopping 244 Premier League appearances, most of which came with Leicester City prior to his Villa switch as a free agent in 2023.
