AS Roma have ramped up their pursuit of Crysencio Summerville amid concrete interest from Manchester United.

According to Sky Sports Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the West Ham star’s ‘agents are already in the city’ ahead of a ‘possible meeting’ with Roma today.

Crysenio Summerville: The state of play

United are admirers of Summerville, so will be attentive to the situation.

However, their focus in recent days has been occupied with their midfielder search, having pulled out of a deal for Ederson and secured the arrivals of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, the latter of whom completed his medical successfully this morning.

Summerville isn’t Roma’s priority either, though. In fact, they have sent an offer to Chelsea to try and negotiate an agreement for United graduate Alejandro Garnacho, who is poised to depart Stamford Bridge just a year on from his £40 million transfer.

Is an approach for Summerville likely?

Given that reinforcements in the middle of the park are at the forefront of INEOS’ transfer plans, the budget will be limited when it comes to attackers.

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that a pursuit and official bid for Summerville may hinge on whether Marcus Rashford can be offloaded, which is now looking less likely.

The 28-year-old made it clear upon his arrival at the World Cup that he would not be entertaining any club/future talks until the tournament had ended.

United are still hoping to find suitors willing to pay Rashford’s £40m release clause, but it’s his exorbitant £325,000-a-week wages that are proving to be a stumbling block; it’s also why INEOS would prefer to sell him rather than reintegrate him this summer.

As it stands, he will return to Carrington to start his pre-season training when his international duties have concluded.

United kick off their 2026/2027 Premier League campaign away to newly promoted Hull City on August 22.
