Atalanta’s director, Cristiano Giuntoli, has admitted that club chiefs have been left ‘stunned’ by the Ederson saga this summer.
It comes after Manchester United pulled out of the deal at the final stage, having voiced concerns over the player’s medical assessment.

A knee injury sustained by Ederson last season had seemingly flagged up when he was undergoing his tests at Carrington, which led to United calling off the transfer.

The 27-year-old had spent the best part of the summer preparing to make the switch to Old Trafford, even after his move was delayed due to a late World Cup call-up to the Brazil squad.
“We were stunned,” said Giuntoli, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano. “Now, we are working on a new contract for him.”
Ederson’s current deal is due to expire next June, hence the Serie A outfit working to agree new terms in order to avoid him leaving for nothing in 11 months’ time.

Then, when reports emerged confirming that INEOS had ended their pursuit of Ederson, they instantly turned to Aston Villa’s Youri Tielemans.
The Europa League winner, 29, had a £35 million release clause in his deal that United activated on Monday, and he underwent a successful medical yesterday.
Still, one more addition in the middle of the park is expected before the deadline.
United had set out to sign at least three players to bolster Michael Carrick’s ranks for the coming term, especially due to the addition of Champions League football to the schedule.
