Luke Shaw seemingly suffered a slight thigh injury during Manchester United’s dominant 5-2 win over Ipswich Town on Sunday.
The full-back played for 73 minutes at Old Trafford after making his second successive start of the term.
What happened to Shaw?
When reporting on the match on Twitter/X, Laurie Whitwell shared: “Shaw had a chat with [Michael] Carrick after United took the lead, then felt the back of his left thigh.
“But seemed fine running off the pitch to be replaced by [Noussair] Mazraoui. Carrick changing full-backs, with [Leny] Yoro on for [Diogo] Dalot.”
Ironically, it’s the one area of the squad that’s in pretty dire need of reinforcements before the transfer deadline.
While Mazraoui and Dalot are capable of deputising for Shaw, he is the only out-and-out, natural left-back in the first-team as things stand.
Not only is that a concern in itself, but the fact he’s also United’s most injury-prone player of the last decade is ringing serious alarm bells for supporters.
INEOS frantically searching for Shaw backup
It’s thought INEOS have been and are currently exploring the market for a stop-gap addition to provide coverage for the England international, though time is running out to get a deal over the line.
They’ve now accepted that their first-choice signing, Lewis Hall, won’t be joining this summer due to Newcastle United making it clear on numerous occasions that he’s off-limits.
Elsewhere, United have made approaches for Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde, though he has since expressed his desire to stay at Camp Nou and fight for his place, as well as Aston Villa’s Ian Maatsen, but he has been deemed ‘untouchable’.

Alas, it remains to be seen where club chiefs will turn their attention.
United’s next outing is a clash with David Moyes’ Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday, September 6.
