Bruno Fernandes is in line to feature for Portugal this evening after missing their last outing through injury.

The midfielder shared a snap on his Instagram story previewing his nation’s clash with Portugal, which is pencilled in for a 7.45pm kick-off (BST).

Alas, Manchester United will be keeping a close eye on how he fares and the minutes he plays after it was revealed he has been carrying a knock in recent weeks.

Following Jorge Jesus’ confirmation that Fernandes was nursing a setback, it was subsequently reported that he initially sustained the problem during United’s Champions League win over Sabah.

Although United led by three goals at half-time in the tie, the club captain saw out the full 90 minutes.

He was then made to undergo late fitness tests so that he could play in the Manchester derby and against Fulham prior to the break.

It goes without saying that Fernandes is one player who would’ve benefitted from a rest over the three-week break – but it isn’t in his nature to miss out on any action unless he is physically unable to make an appearance.

The 32-year-old is one of a host of injury concerns United are having to navigate at the moment, with Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford and Benjamin Sesko all ruled out of international duty.

As well as the trio, Patrick Dorgu has had to leave Denmark’s camp prematurely following his early withdrawal last Sunday, while Noussair Mazraoui was brought off in visible pain after coming off worse in a collision during Morocco’s African Cup of Nations qualifier.
